Mr. Ryszard Zembaczyński, the mayor of Opole, received a 60-kilogram 140 x 110 cm stone mosaic from the representatives of the primary school no. 9 in Opole and Świat Kamienia magazine.
This work of art was made by 240 students of the primary school no. 9 in Opole. The whole idea was invented by the editor-in-chief of Świat Kamienia, Mrs. Adriana Czekaj. The teachers and the headmaster from the primary school encouraged students to engage in this idea. Stones were sponsored by Athena Marmor Sp. z o.o. The stone mosaic was made to celebrate the first day of spring and shows the most famous building in Opole, that is the amphitheatre with the Piast Tower in the background. When the mayor officially received the mosaic (on 26 May), he expressed his admiration for this initiative. He said that he had not seen anything like this before! As a thank you he invited all the participants to his office where a photo of the whole group was taken. The participants of the meeting were surprised when they were given a chance to visit the Museum of Polish Song in Opole. The museum is scheduled to open in autumn this year. According to the plans of the magistrate, the mosaic will be situated in a place which is easily available for all residents of Opole.
