On the cemetery gate in Koźmin in Wielkopolska there is a decision of the cemetery administrator, St. Wawrzyniec parish priest.
The obligatory tomb sizes in our cemetery: double length 200 cm, width 190 or 200 cm; single length 200 cm, width 90 or 100 cm. Is this an attempt to introduce an aesthetic order in the cemetery? According to
Głos Wielkopolski newspaper it is about the money. The existing tombstones must also follow this rule.
Why such decisions? It is obvious: the company owned by the sacristan is the only one that can raise tombstones in the cemetery and the parish priest is currently repairing the roof of the church. He asked for the money but the people do not give him any because they can see what car he has. He came up with an idea that he will earn money by rebuilding tombs, says one of the interviewed by the paper. Some people like the decision of the priest. They take into account the fact that there is not much space left in the cemetery and the cemetery law should be followed. Some tombs have been already adjusted to the new sizes, but not all. For many the money is a problem. Some feel indignant that there should be no retroactive law. It has been also assured that no changes will be introduced in case of old tombstones.
