Stone house is on the final list of ten projects which are competing in the prestigious World Architecture Festival 2013 (“Villa” category) for the best building in the world in 2013. The winners will be known in October.
Stone House is a masterpiece by Vo Trong Nghia and was built in the city of Hanoi. The Vietnamese architect wanted to build something unusual and original and he came up with a spiral project of a torus-shaped (closed surface) building. The stone house includes a lot of interesting architectural solutions.
Among them there are, for example, arrangement of rooms which are put one on the other, or a living room which is a double high space. Therefore, a grass covered roof has got different levels and can be entered directly from the bedroom upstairs. The so-called blue stone, a locally extracted stone, is a material which was used to build this building. It was laid alternately to have a shape of a brick wall. The stones were carefully processed. Each of them resembles a 10-cm thick cuboid.
