The planned works aim to restore all the splendour to royal apartments and are going to put the shine back on the Peace room. At the same time, architectural coherence and legibility of the Palace of Versailles will be maintained. The famous decoration of the room is a sort of conclusion of the Hall of Mirrors iconography which celebrates citizens' uprisings and military successes of the King Sun, which contributed to peace and well-being of the kingdom of France. The Peace Room preserved most of its original architectural decorations. Designed to form a coherent whole with the Hall of Mirrors and the War room (on the north side), the Peace Room was the fruit of a collaboration between Louis XIV’s chief architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart and Charles Le Brun, First Painter to the King. The room was designed between 1681 and 1686 and is characterised by its superb polychrome marble, including Sarrancolin marble, green Campan, Campan Grand Mélange, Rance and white Carrara marble.     

Interestingly, Groupe Renault, international automotive concern, is working with the Palace of Versailles for the first time ever to help fund the restoration of the Peace Room which is an essential element of the French national heritage. This great project is scheduled to start in 2017 and is supposed to be finished after 18 months.
