Bulgari, a famous jewellery company, wants to spend as much as 1.5 million euro on renovation of stone Spanish Steps, one of the famous symbols of Rome. The stairway can be found by the Spanish Square and leads to Trinita dei Monti church. It was built in 1725 and has 138 steps.
It is one of the longest and widest stone stairs in Europe. The fact that it is located close to one of the main squares in the city makes it a popular place for, for example, fashion shows. Interestingly, Bulgari, a brand associated with luxury jewellery, watches, handbags and perfumes, has its seat in Rome. This year the jewellery giant is celebrating 130 years of its existence. The company decided to give a present to the authorities of Rome and responded to the call of the city authorities who were looking for financial means to save the steps. The renovation of the steps will include cleaning of the marble, removing of wild growing plants and fixing cracks. Last time similar works were carried out in 1995.
