The low level of the Vistula River uncovered precious stone treasures. The elements which are in the best state lay in sand and silt. They are almost in perfect condition, although they have been lying there since 1655.
We are talking about the sunken things made of Carrara marble. Stone parts of cornices, arches, portals, window-sills or windows were plundered during the Swedish Flood. According to the historical information, a few of such overloaded boats sunk on their way to Gdansk. The team of scientists, historians and divers led by Dr. Hubert Kowalski from the Institute of Archaeology, University of Warsaw, have been working on their getting out for a few years. The found things are in a good state, because the robbers dismantled them in such a way that later they could be put together again. This is another part of stone details and elements which used to decorate the seats of Polish churches, libraries and castles. The first part was found last year. About 70 elements carved in marbles and alabasters were found then. The objects found in September this year, after renovation, are to go to the Royal Castle in Warsaw. The works concerning searching for precious treasures were taking place till October. Then some parts of Jewish gravestones, which were found on the edges of the Vistula River along Golędzinów, came back to the Jewish cemetery in Bródno. The old cemetery founded in 1780 after the last war was devastated and destined for liquidation.
