Pope John Paul the Second monument |
The stone which is going to be used to build the monument at Pilsudski Square has been delivered to the stone company in Ostroleka. The stone comes from Marcelino Martinez company, a Spanish granite producer. This company owns around 60 quarries in Cadalso de los Vidros. In Cadalso we can find the only deposit of Bianco Cristal stone. This stone is going to be used to build the cross. It is the lightest granite that can be mined in Europe. Gris Cadalso stone, a one tone darker stone, is going to be used to make a floor. Apart from the designer, the representatives of the customer - SZRM, and of the contractor - Mostostal Warszawa came to see the imported stone.
The ceremonial unveiling of the monument will take place on 6 June 2009 (Saturday) during the mass organised at Pilsudski Square to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the visit of Pope John Paul the Second in Warsaw.
