Another meeting of Sztuka Konserwacji (The Art of Restoration) took place in April in Warsaw. It was the 13th edition of this event. The meeting was a chance to Polish restoration specialists to exchange their experiences. The first meeting took place on 1 April. Those who deal with stone were waiting for the 2nd day of the Art of Restoration 2009. The day started with the presentation given by Piotr Madrach - the organiser of the meeting - on the Monumentale cemetery in Milan.
This historic necropolis is said to be the biggest collection of the greatest examples of funeral art. Every one who wants to erect a tomb there must declare that it is going to be a special sculpture. Tomasz Rogala, the work of art renovator, was also talking about tomb sculptures but in the context of the mistakes the renovators make. His lecture touched upon the renovation of tombs in German and Austrian cemeteries.
Restoration works was also the topic discussed by Mr. Andrzej Kazberuk from Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He presented information about the restoration of Boguslaw and Anna Radziwill epitaph that can be found in the cathedral in Leningrad. Also on the last day of the workshops - 7 May - those interested in the art of the restoration of the stone buildings could find something interesting. The lectures, which were held in the Museum of Technology in the Palace of Culture and Science, touched upon, among others, such topics as the restoration of marble sculptures in Powazki Cemetery.
